The Thames Valley District School Board is rethinking secondary learning

The Thames Valley District School knows that 21st century learning requires a more progressive secondary school experience. With input from experts and the community, they’re tackling everything from technology to promoting the value of travel in education. 

The Thames Valley District School Board knows that 21st century learning requires a more progressive secondary school experience. With input from experts and the community, they’re tackling everything from technology to promoting the value of travel in education.

A school in the district, the Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute (IDCI), has been working with EF since 1984. They’re a huge advocate of using travel as a way to give their students new experiences and help them develop global competency. By running multiple tours almost every year, they’ve given many of their students the chance to get out of their bubble and learn from different places and cultures

“EF has changed my student’s lives. There is SO much to see and do! Travel is so important to education but you have to experience it firsthand,” said Sharon, a Geography teacher at IDCI. She’s see the educational value of travel and the impact it’s had on her students – in fact, 95% of teachers believe our tours have helped their students discover more about themselves. Their newfound independence and confidence shows both inside and outside of the classroom.

The travel experiences that this school has provided their students have encouraged many of their alumni to pursue a life abroad (through independent travel, work, or post-secondary education), and has helped expand their minds and hearts to the different realities of people all over the world.
